This book is about Sherlock Holmes solving a mistery (as allways), this in particular has no clues aparently, but Holmes sees beyond anyone else can. So the history is developed showing us that he had all the clues needed and still we weren't able to solve it.
The story begins describing the crime giving us the false idea that the case is allmost solved by it self. At King's Pyland someone stole a racehorse just before a race in wich the was a lot of bet money involved, and it's trainer Straker was murdered. The night that happened, the maid saw a strange man trying to get information about the horses, of course that wasn`t permited so he was told to leave the place, the next morning Straker was found dead with a sharp wound in his leg and the boy that helped them was found sleeping, it seems that the murdered had putt some opium in the the boys chicken, so he woudn't see anything. As I said before the mistery seems allmost solve, but Holmes first concern was to find the horse.
He thought that horses like to be with horses, so he went to a stable near by, he described to the men there everything he had done, acusing him to steal the horse, Holmes was so accurate that the man actually thought that Holmes had seen him, so he confesed. Later on Holmes checks what was on straker's pockets and founds what actually solves the crime, a little knigf meant to perform accurate cuts (medical stuff). The next two big clues were that the dog didn't bark or make any noise when the stranger was there, so Holmes realized that for that to happen was necesary that the stranger wasn't a stranger at all, and second one was that the sheep were cut on the back of their feet making them lame, so conclusion was that Straker indeed tried to arrange the race by making the horse lame, but it when out of control and he was killed bye the horse.
In my opinion Doyle is the greatest (or one of the greatest) mistery tellers, it is so much fun try to figure out what happen in reality in all the cases, in everyone of them he gives us all the tools to find out before he tells us but a least I can't never see it before the author tells me, which I think is great, it's what makes to be worthwhile reading it.
In conclusion I truly recomend anyone who likes mistery to read Conan Doyle'stories, I can assure you, you won't regret it, and this one in particular is really good, of course there must be better ones, so I guess I am telling that I would like to read them all.
